Michigan is known for its craft beer, and you will find lots of great places to explore. Additionally, the unique microclimate here enables farmers to grow grapes and fruit, usually associated with warmer climates. Give some of these great places a try.

Allegan County is home to many wonderful family farms. From April  -  October, many of them open their farms to visitors. Visit these wonderful places and reconnect to our agrarian roots.

Salt of the Earth, Fennville. Fresh, local, farm to table dining. Dishes are creative and delicious. They have creative cocktails, dynamite bread and live music. Reservations recommended in July and August. www.saltoftheearthfennville.com

PK's Lighthouse Cafe, South Haven. Everything you could need! Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (check website for most up to date hours); plus desserts, coffee, treats and much more. Their food is all homemade and delicious. Just off of Blue Star, its well worth the drive. PK's Lighthouse Cafe.

What Not Inn, Fennville. An old roadhouse that has been around since the 1930's. Great atmosphere and food and live music on the weekends. A local gem! www.whatnotinn.com

American Legion, South Haven. Not a normal restaurant suggestion, but they serve breakfast on Sunday's, April - October. Great when you have to get back home, but don't want to mess with the kitchen. Plus you get to meet some local heroes! American Legion Post #49

Deli's/Bakeries/Ice Cream

Glenn Store, Glenn. Fabulous small-town deli and convenience store. On the weekends, they smoke and BBQ chicken and ribs, but get there early to get some. Pizza and sandwiches are great too! Order some food your picnic on the beach. great source for Michigan beer and wine. www.theglennstore.com

Kismet Farm Bakery, Douglas. Another great example of local artisans doing delicious, high quality work. https://kismetbakery.com

Farmhouse Deli, Douglas. Originally opened as a seasonal shop, her food was in such high demand, they stay open all year round. Another great place to get your beach picnic. www.thefarmhousedeli.com

Sherman's Ice Cream, South Haven. A South Haven staple. No trip to South Haven is complete without a visit here. Also available a the Dutch Farm Market on 109th Street and the M-89 Market in Fennville. http://shermanicecream.com

Allegan Event, Allegan. Ropes courses, zip lines and tons of fun. Beat the heat, or head over on a rainy day. They also offer a zip like across the river. A great place to explore! www.alleganevent.com

Escape Allegan. Want to be locked in a room and have to figure a way out? This is for you! www.escapeallegan.com

Allegan County Fair, Allegan. This is another throwback to another time. A midway with lots of rides and games, animals and concerts. The fair is every September and is a ton of fun. www.allegancountyfair.com

AirZoo, Kalamazoo. Take a day and spend it at the Air Zoo. An air museum located next to the airport in Kalamazoo. They also feature rides and simulators. The SR-71 Blackbird is a rare two seater and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Exhibits are always changing so check their website before you go. https://www.airzoo.org

Saugatuck Dune Rides, Saugatuck. Take a ride through the famous Michigan Dunes. Great time for all ages! https://www.saugatuckduneride.com

Parks and Beaches

Saugatuck Dunes and Felt Mansion, Saugatuck. The dunes provide a gentle hike that ends on the shores of Lake Michigan. Also, the Felt Mansion hosts tours, concerts and events. Saugatuck Dunes & Felt Mansion

Pier Cove, Fennville. A great little beach. We loved it when our kids were little because of the creek that flows out. It creates a safe beach experience for young ones. Parking is limited, so get there early. Its also the site of an old Pier where fruit and timber was shipped back to Chicago. https://www.saugatuck.com/directory/pier-cove-beach/

Rosy Mound, Grand Haven. Another great place to hike. It's not as gentle as Saugatuck Dunes (it has more stairs) but its well worth the hike. Kids Corner, South Haven. A huge wooden fort built for exploration, close to South Beach in South Haven. It's a kids paradise! https://www.michigan.org/property/kids-corner-south-haven

Kal-Haven Trail, Kalamazoo-South Haven. The Kal-Haven Trail is 34 miles long and connects Kalamazoo and South Haven. You can ride all the way, or pick a small part and explore. https://www.michigan.org/property/kal-haven-trail-state-park'



Hawkshead Golf, Restaurant, Inn, South Haven. Everything you need for a complete vacation. Locally owned and operated, their restaurant is open even if your not golfing and is highly recommended. www.hawksheadlinks.com
